Our Departments

Communication
Telling the Tribe’s story is the role of the Communications department which manages internal and external communications, including the Tribe’s website and social media channels.
Contracts & Grants
The Contracts & Grants department is charged with procurement of Tribal contracts for service as well as grants that extend the Tribe’s ability to provide services.
Dakota Language
The Dakota Language department provides Tribal members with resources to learn Dakota, protecting and preserving the language for current and future generations.
Education
The Education department is a resource for students and families, providing liaison activities with the public school system and access to information about further education opportunities.
Enrollment
The Enrollment department oversees member enrollment matters on behalf of the Tribe.
Finance
The Finance department is responsible for all fiscal management on behalf of the Tribal government, including economic development efforts.
Gaming Commission
The Gaming Commission is responsible for oversight of the Tribe’s gaming business, including licensing of gaming staff and casino operations.
Health and Human Services
The Health and Human Services department is responsible for promoting health in the community. This includes managing the insurance program, health clinic, fitness center, nutrition program, and all other health services provided.
Housing Authority
The Housing Authority department manages land assignments for Tribal members on reservation land, including newly acquired trust lands.
Human Resources
The Human Resources department oversees employment and employee relations for the Tribe.
IT/Tech Support
The IT/Tech Support department is in charge of managing the Tribe’s information technology infrastructure.
Legal & Government Relations
The Legal & Government Relations department is responsible for protecting the Tribe’s and Tribal members’ interests in the courts, through ordinances that govern the reservation, and in state and federal legislative matters.
Public Safety
The Public Safety department is home to the Tribe’s law enforcement arm, the Prairie Island Police Department.
Public Utilities
Managing reservation infrastructure, including electricity, sewer and water is the job of the Public Utilities department.
Public Works
The Public Works department is responsible for maintaining government buildings and property, including reservation land and the Buffalo Project.
Safety
The Safety department is charged with workplace safety issues and ensuring a safe, healthy working environment for all employees.
Tribal Historic Preservation Office
The mission of the Tribal Historic Preservation Office is to protect and preserve cultural and historic resources that shape Dakota history and heritage.
